Family, friends, your neighbours,... Everyone seems to ask you the same question these days. Some may have a clear answer. Others are still reflecting on what to do next. We have made you a helpful roadmap to get you along the way and to find an answer to this difficult question.

Sign up!

First of all, we recommend you to sign up to an employment office as to notify the government that you're available for the labor force. These employment offices differ per region.

  • Actiris for the Brussels Capital Region;
  • Forem for the Walloon Region;
  • VDAB for the Flemish Region;
  • ADG for the German Region.

Get insured!

Most probably, you're insured at one of the mutualities through your parents. Now you're graduated however it is up to you to subscribe yourself. This is the only way to keep yourself insured.

Update your LinkedIn & CV!

Every good job interview starts with a good resume and an up-to-date LinkedIn-page. Make sure that your LinkedIn-page shows that you have successfully graduated and that you are available for fun, new opportunities. You'll be amazed how many recruiters will get in touch with you.

You may want to keep your paper resume as short, yet complete. Naturally, your education, internships and student jobs should be included. Don't hesitate to leave some space for a text that describes who you are and what you're looking for. Also, include your language knowledge, because this could make or break you in a trilingual country just as Belgium.

Upload you resume to sites like Monster, Moovijob (LUX) and Lexgo, they make you visible to companies and recruiters.

Obviously, you can also follow your heart and apply to that one company you've been dreaming about for so long. Apply spontaneously and tell them why you're so passionate about the company and what you can add to it with your skillset.

Get interviews!

Don't be afraid to go on interview at different companies. You'll learn from every interview, even if that job not the one not for you. Dress appropriately and be polite but confident. Anticipate to questions and prepare your strengths and weaknesses as these questions come up often.
