Description

The Senior Marine Underwriter will contribute to profitable growth and overall business performance of the portfolio, within France/Belgium/Luxembourg. The role is based in Brussels.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Underwriting new and renewed accounts within the jurisdiction,
  • Determine desirability of accepting or not accepting business in line with strategy, appetite and guidelines,
  • Performing technical risk analysis,
  • Pricing risks in line with pricing tools and guidelines,
  • Formulate appropriate contractual terms and perform critical text reviews,
  • Assess international risks and design/implement multinational programs as appropriate,
  • Evaluate capacity aggregations taking into account disaster modeling data and analysis,
  • Proactively monitor business profitability and anticipate/implement effective policy renewal negotiation,
  • Collaborate with other departments (Claims, Distribution, Risk control, Operations, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction while achieving corporate goals and governance and underwriting control objectives,
  • Build strong relationships with brokers, clients and other key external stakeholders,
  • Identify opportunities for business development/marketing initiatives and contribute to the promotion of the business

Your profile

  • You have technical experience and data-driven analytical ability,
  • You are strong in relationship management with brokers/clients,
  • You have strong written and oral communication skills,
  • You are problem-solving and have negotiation and decision-making skills,
  • You have a collaborative team player mentality,
  • You can perform/ flourish in a rapidly changing international environment.
  • You have a university degree
  • You have at least 5-10 years of experience in Marine underwriting, brokerage or claims handling, with proven competence preferably in cargo, logistics & commodities business
  • You are fluent in Dutch - English with a good knowledge of French
