Head of Marine Underwriting
For our client with a growing Marine portfolio in Belgium, we are looking for a Head of Marine Underwriting: an experienced leader who will take on the day-to-day management, strategic direction, and further professionalization of the Marine department. You combine technical expertise with strategic insight and a natural leadership style. In addition, you will represent our client visibly and credibly in the market. You will be the connecting link between the team, management, head office, international partners, and brokers, ensuring that the Marine portfolio grows sustainably and remains healthy.
Description
In this role, you will be the one who:- Leads, inspires, and connects the Marine team and creates a safe, professional, and ambitious working environment;
- Sets out a clear vision for the Marine department in line with the strategy and translates that vision into direction, frameworks, and daily choices;
- Act as the linchpin between employees, management, head office, and brokers, communicating clearly, empathetically, and in a directional manner;
- Further develop the portfolio, identify opportunities, and continuously refine our underwriting practice;
- Stimulate product development and innovation and ensure that processes and services become increasingly professional;
- Explore new opportunities to strengthen capacity, quality, and growth;
- Work closely with Marine colleagues in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, and other countries within the group, within an integrated European Marine network.
- You draw up budgets;
- You monitor profit and loss;
- You keep claims costs under control;
- You ensure transparent departmental reporting.
Your profile
- You are an experienced Marine professional who combines substantive expertise with leadership, vision, and the ability to connect with others.
- You are comfortable navigating the Antwerp and international Marine market, switch easily between Dutch, English, and French, understand what teams need to grow, and inspire confidence in international partners, colleagues, brokers, and customers.
- You combine strategic insight with a warm, accessible leadership style: you dare to set the course, make decisions, and provide direction, but also listen and coach.
- You have an eye for the quality of files, processes, and risks and understand how portfolio management, product development, and claims costs come together in a healthy Marine department.
